Spring into Content: Capture Your Destination in Full Bloom
Spring is here, and it’s time to showcase your destination’s transformation out of winter. The energy of new blooms, longer days, and vibrant colors make this the perfect season to create fresh content that reflects what makes your destination special. Whether you're just starting or refining your approach, these tips will help you present your destination the way you love it—and uncover ways to showcase it in ways your audience will love, too.
Sometimes the flowers are great, but the grass??? Not so much :-)
1. It’s Never Too Late to Start
If time and weather permit, start planning and producing now. Spring moves fast, and capturing it at its peak can make all the difference. Even if you’re behind schedule, don’t let that stop you—there’s still time to get the shots that bring your destination to life.
2. Feature Your Destination with Iconic Springtime Shots
In photography, to "feature" something means to make it the clear focal point of the image. Your destination should always be the star. Plan on capturing those iconic spots, but with a springtime twist—think cherry blossoms lining your main streets, vibrant gardens framing a city skyline, or a famous landmark bathed in golden spring light.
3. Maximize the Shot with Multiple Elements
Layer in as many reasons to film as possible:
Scenic beauty – Spring flowers, fresh greenery, and seasonal elements.
Recognizable landmarks – An image should immediately tell the audience where it was taken.
People who represent your market – Whether it's locals, visitors, or volunteers, including real people makes your content feel more relatable and dynamic.
4. The Little Details Matter: Shot Depth & Scene Styling
Take the time to set up your scene, and don’t just settle for the first angle. Think about shot depth—how much of the image is in focus and how it tells a story.
Deep depth of field (higher f-stop, lower ISO) captures multiple layers, showing how a destination has activity happening at every level.
Shallow depth of field (low f-stop, higher ISO) focuses on a single subject, blurring the background. While these shots can be beautiful, they might not communicate a sense of place.
The goal: Aim for images that say "only in my location." This makes them feel original, authentic, and valuable to your audience.
5. Curate and Edit Early
Once you’ve captured the content, don’t let it sit. Reviewing and curating assets while the shoot is fresh ensures that your editing decisions align with your original vision. Plus, getting the post-processing done early means you’re one step closer to sharing engaging content—so you can get back to the fun part.
Spring Won’t Wait—Capture It Now!
Spring is fleeting, but the right content can make it last. By planning smart, capturing your destination’s essence, and curating with intention, you’ll create imagery that resonates. So grab your camera, step outside, and show the world why spring is the perfect time to visit your destination!
